More than 3,300 kittens were saved thanks to the Southern Kitten Fund.

Warmer weather in the Southern states not only prolongs kitten season but also leads to higher birth rates due to more favorable breeding conditions. Animal shelters and rescues in the South are facing an overwhelming number of intakes, creating a critical situation for vulnerable kittens in need of care. That’s why we teamed up with like-minded nonprofits in the South to provide targeted grants for neonatal kittens. Check out the lifesaving that we accomplished together!

This Grant cycle was made possible by the generous support of a family foundation who had a passion to inspire positive change for kittens in the South.

Alabama

Montgomery Humane Society

Neonatal Kitten Diversion – Montgomery Humane Society wanted to expand their kitten foster care program. The best way to do that was to outfit their foster families with all the necessary supplies. With the Mightycat grant they were able to create 100 kitten foster kits to expand their lifesaving capabilities! The kits have been invaluable for saving more lives. They were even featured on the news for their efforts!

Florida

Feline Advocates of Leon County

Snip Snip Hooray! – In order for a kitten to graduate from foster care to a forever home, Feline Advocates of Leon County make sure each kitten is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. With the help of this Mightycat grant, they did just that for 125 kittens! Many of the kittens were then adopted by local families, like the beautiful Moonpie, but some of the kittens got to take a road trip before finding their forever home in Northern states.

The Runaways Animal Rescue

Kits, Snips and Tips! – Thanks to this Mightycat grant, The Runaways were able to create 15 supply kits to expand their foster network from 27 to 52! Then they took in even more kittens that were facing euthanasia from their local shelter to support lifesaving in their community. On top of all that they were able to use funds for 84 spay and neuter surgeries to send kittens on their path to adoption.

North Carolina

Brother Wolf Animal Rescue

Support for Medical Fosters – Brother Wolf Animal Rescue works with many rural shelters in their community and often rescues kittens with eye infections. Through this grant, they were able to purchase medicated ointment and train their foster families. We are happy to report all kittens recovered without needing further intervention or surgery! They were also able to purchase high quality nutritious kitten food to send home with their fosters.

Oklahoma

Tiny Paws Kitten Rescue, Inc

Four Paws at a Time – With this Mightycat grant, Tiny Paws Kitten Rescue Inc. were able to purchase new supplies and add even more foster homes to their network impacting over 300 kittens! This expansion was a game-changer for the health and well-being of mommas and their babies. While we always applaud all efforts to support orphan kittens, we also think there’s something truly special about supporting a momma cat caring for her babies.

Texas

Six Kittens Rescue

Isolate the Ickies! – We helped Six Kittens Rescue purchase easy-to-clean acrylic playpens, allowing confinement for kittens with infectious disease. They were also able to supply fosters with Rescue disinfectant. A whopping 165 kittens were saved and as an added bonus, there has been a much lower instance of recurrent disease with the support of this grant. We think that calls for a celebration!

Humane Society of North Texas

The Kitten Sitter’s Club – There isn’t always time to find foster for kittens brought in at the end of the day, so we funded an innovative staff program! Through this Mightycat grant, HSNT employees were incentivized with gift cards to temporarily care for bottle baby kittens overnight. Staff contributed over 75 nights of lifesaving care for 57 neonatal kittens to bridge the lifesaving gap until foster could be found!

Wolly Kitten Club

Kitten Care Closet – Wolly Kitten Club wants anyone who can foster neonatal kittens to be able to do so, without having to worry about being able to afford the necessary supplies. So we stocked them up with plenty of foster supplies to help them save more than 120 kittens! The best news is the supplies will impact many more kittens in years to come.

Virginia

Lynchburg Humane Society

Kitten Warriors Need Clean Water! – We provided funding so Lynchburg Humane Society’s kitten nursery could add in a sink, exam table and cabinetry. Over 1,200 kittens being impacted since the installation! What a huge impact for all the staff and kittens.

Richmond SPCA

Feeding the Feline Future! – We helped feed over 500 kittens with formula and wet food! Smudge is just one of the lucky bottle baby kittens that landed in the right place. With the support of this Mightycat grant, Smudge was able to stay healthy and very well fed during their stay in foster care. Good job filling those tiny tummies Richmond SPCA!
