This grant strengthened the preventative care every kitten in the program receives. In addition to dewormers, snap tests, and vaccines, kittens now get monthly flea and parasite prevention, which helps keep them healthy and protects them from infectious disease while they grow in foster homes. Chi came to the rescue at 6 weeks old, covered in fleas, malnourished, and unable to use her back legs because of a spinal cord injury. Flea prevention kept her from becoming anemic, and a committed foster helped her stay healthy. She grew into a playful kitten and had an adopter lined up. In all, at least 275 kittens, from bottle babies to weaned kittens, received care from this project.
