Lifesaving Coordination

Project Name: Lifesaving Coordination
Organization: Maui Humane Society
Location: Hawaii

For the tiniest kittens, survival depends on how quickly the right care, training, and people come together. This project built that connection.

A new Neonatal Kitten Foster Coordinator focused on kittens under five weeks old, the most fragile kittens entering shelter care. The role strengthened the Baby Animal Rescue Nursery (BARN), a safe daytime space where staff, fosters, and volunteers provide feeding, monitoring, and warmth, so kittens could move into safe care faster.

Manuelito and Aurelio were two fragile brothers who arrived needing intensive care. Training from the coordinator and support from the BARN team equipped their foster caregiver to provide specialized treatment. When Manuelito struggled to gain weight, the team quickly adjusted his care plan, and he grew stronger alongside his brother. Both were adopted once they were strong enough.

Throughout the duration of their Lifesaving Coordination project, Maui Humane Society was able to care for more than 1,026 kittens!
