Kitten Kits for the Whole Family

Project Name: Kitten Kits for the Whole Family
Organization: Lawrence Humane Society, Inc
Location: Kansas

Ten foster families with kids received kitten kits stocked full of everything they needed. The kits made fostering easier, and families fostered more consistently and for longer, often keeping kittens until the day of their spay/neuter surgeries. Together, the ten families fostered more than 30 kittens.

Two of those kittens were strays with cerebellar hypoplasia who arrived underweight, and sick. A foster mom who had only fostered occasionally agreed to take them, with her two daughters promising to help. With a kit on hand, the family fostered for over eight weeks, their longest stint yet. As the kittens grew, their tremors eased, and the playpen was a lifesaver once they started moving around. By surgery day, they were active, healthy kittens.

The family was inspired by Kira Serisky, a beloved teen foster parent whose legacy lives on through Kira’s Fund which covered this grant.
