Investing in People to Help Save More Kittens

Project Name: Investing in People to Help Save More Kittens
Organization: Meow Parlour Cats, Inc
Location: New York

This grant funded a new staff position that changed how new foster homes were welcomed into the program. Instead of time-intensive one-on-one interviews, new fosters joined group orientations.

Eighteen sessions brought together 165 attendees, giving interested fosters a clearer picture of what to expect and connecting them with others starting their fostering journey. The change helped foster homes feel supported from day one and more comfortable taking on the youngest and most medically complex kittens.

The results spoke for themselves: 263 kittens ages 0–12 weeks were helped, including 60 kittens under 4 weeks and 96 kittens between 4 and 8 weeks old.

A bigger foster network meant a litter of eight kittens could be split across four foster homes, with each home able to focus on their intensive medical needs, taking daunting to doable.

With a stronger foster network in place, many more kittens will have the same chance.
