This grant grew the team behind the foster program. Investing in the team, along with a new foster training manual and hands-on coaching, helped bring new fosters on board, with seasoned fosters and staff on call for emergencies. The number of kitten fosters grew 37% from the year before. In all, 179 kittens under 12 weeks old were fostered and then adopted.
One of the litters was seven kittens, only 4 to 5 days old, found in a box. They went straight into an incubator to warm up. A seasoned foster and a new foster took them in, and the new foster got hands-on training in bottle feeding, stimulating kittens to go to the bathroom, and proper care. Regular wellness checks at the shelter kept her supported throughout the foster assignment.
