Fixin’ For Home

Project Name: Fixin’ For Home
Organization: SpokAnimal C.A.R.E.
Location: Washington

Every foster placement has an end date, and for many organizations that date is surgery day. At SpokAnimal C.A.R.E when spay and neuter appointments bottlenecked, kittens were waiting in foster for up to four months instead of two, which was hard on the fosters who love them and the resources the shelter had.

Fixin’ For Home brought in a high-volume relief vet and a vet technician dedicated to foster kittens. The foster coordinator sent the clinic a list of kittens ready for surgery, and the clinic booked the appointments and notified the fosters. Kittens were spayed or neutered on schedule at eight weeks old and moved on to adoption.

During one kitten season 1,340 kittens were spayed or neutered, supporting a network of 336 foster volunteers and helping prevent countless future litters. We’re happy to report that surgeries are now moving steadily!
