So many kittens end up at the shelter because someone found them and didn’t know what else to do. This program gave the team a better option to offer: a field foster kit.
When community members came in with kittens, staff explained the support available and sent them home with a kit customized to what each kitten needed. Many agreed to foster, keeping kittens out of the shelter until they were ready for adoption. Fosters were trained on basic care, bottle feeding, giving injections, and treating common ailments like diarrhea. Once the kittens reached 2 pounds, they returned for surgery and moved into the adoption program.
More than 1,000 kittens received care through the program and quarterly adoption events helped foster kittens find homes quickly instead of waiting in the shelter.
