Building a Kitten Care System

Project Name: Building a Kitten Care System
Organization: Lawrence Humane Society, Inc
Location: Kansas

This grant built a kitten care system from the ground up. A Kitten Specialist joined the team and organized a group of on-call fosters ready to take in bottle babies and medically fragile kittens at a moment’s notice. Three incubators were provided to help kittens stabilize before they headed to foster care, and one was on deck to loan to fosters caring for especially fragile kittens. Twenty kitten kits were funded, giving fosters what they needed to track weight, keep kittens healthy, and make bottle feeding easier, which helped prevent foster burnout. Fosters also received one-on-one training on bottle feeding, husbandry, and even how to foster kittens with ringworm. In one kitten season, 170 kittens were helped, and the systems built remain in place to continue lifesaving each year!
