Uveitis and Feline Infectious Peritonitis

Kittens can develop eye inflammation called uveitis for different reasons. One serious cause is feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a life-threatening viral disease. However, kittens can also develop a similar looking eye condition that improves on its own and is not caused by FIP. This study compared these two conditions to help veterinarians tell them apart more accurately.

Careful clinical assessment, especially thorough eye examination, can help veterinarians avoid misdiagnosis and unnecessary antiviral treatment. This is helpful to make sure kittens receive appropriate care and to prevent an incorrect FIP diagnosis.
