Steven Universe arrived at just three days old with a cleft palate, having already lost 22 grams from his birth weight. A good samaritan had noticed he wasn’t nursing properly and got him the help he needed. After his first tube feeding he bounced right back, and his foster carefully tube fed him every meal while they waited for him to reach the two pound threshold for surgery.
Once he got there, his cleft palate repair went beautifully, with surgeons noting it came together quite well. An esophagostomy tube was placed to support his continued recovery, and Steven Universe has been doing wonderfully ever since.
