Pumpernickel arrived from a local shelter as part of a litter of ten seven-week-old kittens, all suffering from calicivirus. While several had infected eyes, Pumpernickel’s was in especially bad shape. Every effort was made to save it, but his eye ruptured and he was rushed in for emergency enucleation surgery. He took his pain medication like a champ, completed his full course of antibiotics, and made a complete recovery.
