Pepita

Location: Arizona
Condition: Surgical - Other
Organization: Southern Arizona Cat Rescue

Pepita’s unusually round head and big eyes had her rescuers suspecting hydrocephalus, and her first seizure confirmed it.

An MRI revealed external hydrocephalus, where fluid collects around the brain instead of inside it. Pepita was declining, and her neurologist said surgery couldn’t wait. She received a VP shunt, a modified human pediatric shunt that drains fluid into her abdomen.

Pepita’s story is one of expecting the worst, hoping for the best, and exceeding expectations. A kitten with a complicated condition got answers, a specialist team, and a real shot at a long life.
