Gumbo arrived at just four weeks old with an upper respiratory infection. He made a remarkable recovery, but one mystery remained: his right eye never opened. Vets discovered two conditions, symblepharon and ankyloblepharon, where prolonged inflammation from illness had caused his eyelids to fuse together and to the eyeball. Enucleation was the best path to prevent future pain and infection. His surgery was a success, and Gumbo is now healing beautifully and proudly rocking his status as a one-eyed wonder.
