Artemis was found on the side of the road with her brother. When she arrived, her teeth were noted to be a dark orange color, leading veterinarians to suspect a rare condition called congenital erythropoietic porphyria (CEP). She soon began struggling with weight gain, appetite loss, lethargy, and nausea, requiring hospitalization and IV fluids.
After extensive testing and a referral to a specialist, reduced gut motility was diagnosed and treated with medication, along with daily subcutaneous fluids at home. Thanks to her foster’s dedication, Artemis began to thrive. Best of all, she was lovingly adopted by the same foster who helped her grow and heal.
