14 Beans was born with half his back left leg missing, which is why he only has 14 of the typical 18 beans that the stock models come with. He was rescued during a TNR effort, where it was found that his shorter limb constantly scraped against the ground, leading to ongoing skin irritation and infection.
Radiographs revealed a limb difference that left him without the bones beneath his tibia and fibula. His knee also flexed in the wrong direction, and his hip was partially dislocated. After carefully considering his options, amputation was determined to be the best path forward.
His surgery was covered, and although recovery had a few ups and downs, including a bout of ringworm, this resilient little guy kept going.
Today, 14 Beans has adapted beautifully to tripod life and is thriving.
