Pepper was found alone outside, struggling with painful, irregular eyes. He was diagnosed with eyelid agenesis, a congenital condition where part of the eyelid doesn’t form properly. Without treatment, every blink causes irritation, discharge, and even corneal ulcers.
Since eyelid agenesis can vary in severity, cryotherapy was determined to be the best course of action for Pepper. The treatment removes the hair follicles along the defective eyelid to stop hair from rubbing against the cornea. While it doesn’t rebuild the eyelid, it relieves pain, reduces the need for long-term medication, and avoids major surgery.
Pepper is now free from the pain that once held him back.
