Mightycat Mentor Program
Kittens are among the most vulnerable animals in shelters. Many facilities simply don’t have staff who are trained or equipped to care for them—and as a result, too many kittens don’t survive.
We’re working to change that.
In April 2025, we launched the pilot of our Mightycat Mentor Program—a bold new approach to building lifesaving capacity for kittens. And the results were truly inspiring.
Over the course of one week in San Diego, animal welfare professionals from Riverside County Animal Services, Maui Humane Society, and Helping Hands Humane Society came together to deepen their knowledge, strengthen connections, and prepare for kitten season like never before. With expert guidance from San Diego Humane Society and Kitten Lady, participants left equipped to make a bigger impact in their own communities.
Each organization received a grant from Orphan Kitten Club to fund a dedicated kitten staff position in 2025. By pairing this funding with hands-on mentorship, we’re testing a powerful formula to save more kitten lives nationwide. San Diego, home to one of the country’s most effective kitten programs, was the ideal place to pilot this vision.
What’s Next?
We’ve started small, with just three shelters—but this is just the beginning. Our goal is to provide staffing, training, and mentorship to shelters all across the country.
To do that, we need your help.
