The Healing Academy Initiative

Project Name: The Healing Academy Initiative
Organization: Pasadena Humane
Location: California

Ringworm and panleukopenia are highly contagious, and sick kittens once had to stay in limited shelter quarantine space. The Healing Academy turned community members into confident medical fosters.

Fosters completed online training and hands-on workshops, then received protective gear and supplies to care for kittens safely at home. The first cohort took on cases that once would have stayed in the shelter, including bottle babies and kittens with complex medical needs. For the first time, kittens with ringworm were treated in foster homes.

“Before, I honestly thought no one would want to foster kittens with ringworm, but with the right supplies and support, people are willing to step up. We’ve been able to say yes to more sick kittens because now we can set our fosters up for success.” Paola, Foster Coordinator

The impact: 60 foster families supported, 60 foster kits, and a network of trained fosters that keeps quarantine space open for other animals in need. With a foundation built to last, there will be many more kittens helped in years to come.
